COLOURS '09
John Curry invited me to help out at the Society of Ancients participation game at Colours.
An honour in itself.
Naturally I accepted. The game itself was, as to be expected from such a stable, thoroughly entertaining - but I would say that wouldn't I? I was part of the team presenting it. Those members of the public who participated - perhaps not as many as we could have dealt with but sufficient - seemed to agree with my biased view.
I can also give proof, should it be required that it was challenging enough for veteran gamers yet simple enough for a 9 year old non-gamer to enjoy and triumph in.
The former:
Three not so wise men ponder the defence of the castle
The latter:
My daughter crashes in where lesser mortals fear to tread (an unbelievable series of die rolls that she repeats at home to trounce me in all games.)
The game involves the attacker planning his/her method of attack and spending construction points to assemble the siege weaponry they think they will require in the attack. And then having to live (or otherwise) with the consequences as they carry out the assault.
All our attackers during the day managed to get some sort of foothold in the main defences but none with the ruthless luck and daring Eleri displayed as she overran the place.
Of course she treated the whole thing with her normal insouciance:
Whilst the defenders made the best of a bad job
