IRON AGE VILLAGE

Page history last edited by Guy Farrish 5 years, 1 month ago

After the battle between the Silures and the Romans it occurred to me that the next advance by the Romans would probably seek out some of the local tribal defended villages and try and reduce them piecemeal if they could. Trouble was I didn't have any Iron Age villages. As this wasn't going to be a regular thing (probably) I thought that I would make a 'will do'  version rather than spending figure money on a best looking version. I'm not even sure how much fighting will go on around it as I am not looking at a major defensive position but a simple walled fort. So:

A cardboard tube from bonfire night sparklers was sliced up and paper cones stuck on top.

Then the roofs were sculpted and door frames added. I cut a village base from 2mm mdf and shaped an earth bank from cork tile.

I covered the base with a pva glue soaked cloth to seal the mdf and smooth the bank contours - leaving a hole for a pond. I pinned a scored and shaped wooden wall scored to give a staked palisade.

The whole was painted, the base grassed and a small crop area flocked. I left off a hut because I wanted the crop area and pool and didn't want it too crowded.

At some stage we will have to have a fight around it!
